Hello!

My name is Teddy, also known as MxTeddybear. I am an American artist who is always looking to expand my knowledge and find inspiration. Art means a lot to me, it has been how I have expressed myself since childhood.

Digital Art Process

My art process varies depending on how I imagine the final work to look, but in general I follow a similar process: sketch, line work, flat colors, shading and texture, then the final rendering.

I use various references when trying to create dynamic poses, backgrounds, or lighting. For textures I use a mix of overlaying, hand drawing, premade brush textures, and occasionally making my own brush stamps/textures.

During the coloring process I often create a pallet to pick from, these colors usually end up changing as I tweak them to fit the art more. This work was made entirely in Paint Tool SAI, it is my preferred program and what I have used for over a decade.

This work I had printed and framed for an exhibit. For printing I prefer to use small local shops.

Traditional Art Process

When doing traditional art my process is even more varied due to the variety of mediums I use.

In this work I made a mock-up of it first digitally to save myself material and time. The background is plywood which I primed first before adding oil pastel and oil paint to- this was my first time ever using oil mediums.

Next was sketching out the main subject on a sheet of MDF, it was primed before painting with acrylic. Additional details were added with colored pencil and more acrylic. I then used a saw and dremel to carve out the negative space and drips. All the cut areas were primed and painted before gluing the subject to the background. Various clear sealants were used between layers, a final gloss coating was applied once everything was dry.

During this I was also building the frame from scratch. I chose a rainbow poplar board to cut the sides from, added grooves to the inside of the frame so the painting and glass panel could be slid in to place. The frame was finished with danish oil and a satin clear finish then brass hardware was added.
